The Lake Houston Area Chamber has plans to create community advocacy groups, ?BizCom Groups?, to meet the unique needs of the businesses and community in each of the Kingwood, Atascocita and Humble Areas.
The BizCom groups will be a blend of businesses, community members and the school officials from each area. Beginning in 2012, each of the BizCom groups will meet on a quarterly basis at the local high school in their community for one hour beginning at 11 am. The meetings will feature speakers who will address issues or needs from that community and time for questions and group discussion.
Chamber Board member Corinn Price of Insperity has been leading the charge to establish the BizCom groups. According to Price, as the Chamber will continue to work to facilitate business and infrastructure growth on a regional level, the organization is establishing the BizCom groups in response to the individual communities who are in need of a local vein to address issues and needs specific to their community.
T he Lake Houston Area Chamber has a good track record of addressing transportation and governmental advocacy needs regionally,? Price said. ?But the Chamber also realizes that each community has their own unique identity. A part from being at different stages in their particular community?s development, each community is also governed and taxed by different entities, giving each community their own, separate course to take in order to accomplish their goals or respond to issues.?
According to Price, there will be no fee to participate in the group and they are hopeful they will be able to provide a free lunch for attendees. An advisory group is being established to determine meeting logistics and speakers.
Price said the BizCom Groups are based on the success Summer Creek has had with their Community and Business Association. She said each community?s BizCom Group is reviewing the model and molding it to fit their community.
Information about each BizCom group will be communicated through the Chamber to its members and through local media outlets. Anyone interested in being involved in a BizCom group can contact the Chamber at 281-446-2128.
