Project Teams

Ambassador Team

Committee Chair: Dave Kilby, K2 Enterprises

Vice Chair: Jim Lindeneau, Lindeneau & Associates

Monthly Meetings: 1st Tues. at 12 pm

Goal: To increase Chamber membership retention by promoting broader participation in Chamber and community activities by all Chamber members, and to create better understanding among members of all the benefits of their Chamber membership.

  • Hold monthly Ambassador meetings at member restaurants to increase Chamber awareness.
  • Work closely with Membership Committee to maximize gains in new members, member participation, New Member Luncheon attendance, and specifi cally member retention.
  • Provide Chamber Staff and Board of Directors with member feedback and/or member concerns.
  • Be pro-active about identifying and communicating issues facing the different geographic segments of our Chamber.
  • Develop new networking opportunities, especially in the SE Quadrant of the Chamber service area (Summerwood/Fall Creek).
  • Attend Chamber Ribbon Cuttings, Open Houses, and networking events such as member sponsored Networking Breakfasts, After Hours, and the Surprise Patrol. Continue the partnership with the Observer by attending the Networking Luncheons.
  • Represent the Chamber at area festivals and parades, thus promoting visibility in the communities we serve.
  • Host at least ten Networking Breakfasts each year, Quarterly After-Hours, and at least one networking function at one of the monthly Third Tuesday Luncheons each year, and provide greeters for each function.
  • Be a positive force in the Chamber, actively participating and assuming a leadership role, along with appropriate committee members, for any proposed regional issue or concept.
  • Promote ?Member to Member? participation by more Chamber members.
  • Develop a mentoring program for new Chamber members.
  • Sponsor and support the advancement of the ?IT? program and disperse funds appropriately.
  • Be pro-active in striving to increase membership of Ambassador Committee.

Beautification Team

Committee Chair: Tom Cook, The Dockline Magazine

Vice Chair: Lisa Doughty, Waste Management

Monthly Meetings: 2nd Mon. at 4 pm

  • Educate the public on the negative effect that panhandlers and street vendors have on our community.
  • Educate the community on the importance of recycling.
  • Help establish an ongoing recycling program.
  • Work with other Beautifi cation Committees on projects.
  • Present an Annual Go Green Award to a Chamber member who has made the most changes to going green.
  • Continue to grow the Farmers Market the committee started in Humble. Look at possibly expanding the market to other areas.

Community Health & Wellness Team

Co-Chair: Dr. Bruce Guillory, Chiropractic, Massage & Wellness Center

Co-Chair: Dr. Kyle Buchan, Kingwood Chiropractic Associates

Monthly Meetings: 2nd Tues. at 12 pm

  • Promote and organize two CPR certifi cations for the community each year.
  • Keep the community aware of changes in legislation related to health care.
  • Strive to increase membership in the Chamber of all health care providers and health related businesses, educate them on the value of chamber membership, and increase the perceived value of membership.
  • Promote and host an annual 10k/5k run/walk.
  • Promote and support the Chamber?s Group Health Insurance Cooperative.

Education Team

Chair: Jana Anders, InvesTex Credit Union

Vice Chair: Dr. Karen Perkins, Humble ISD

Monthly Meetings: 1st Tues. at 11 am

  • Host PanKakes for Kids Breakfast to kick-off Humble BBQ Cookoff and raise funds for student scholarships and teacher grants.
  • Conduct a book drive in April. Books given to schools based on need. Each member of the committee will individually collect books and deliver to schools.
  • Select Scholarship Committee from members of Education Committee to read scholarship applications and select winners.
  • Host a Scholarship Reception for scholarship recipients where they will be introduced and presented a certifi cate of recognition.
  • Education Committee representative(s) serve on the Board and Selection Committee for Humble ISD Education Foundation Grants.
  • Prepare/present ?Welcome? goodie bags for new teachers at Humble ISD, Spring ISD, Lone Star College-Kingwood, and private schools that are Chamber members, giving businesses an opportunity to market to new community members.
  • Host a luncheon in October honoring the ?Teachers of the Year? from Humble ISD, Spring ISD, accredited private schools who are Chamber members, and Lone Star College- Kingwood ?Teachers of Excellence?.
  • Participate in the Humble ISD ?Teachers of the Year? selection process by having a committee member serve on the Selection Committee.
  • Continue to extend the Education Committee functions to include private and other accredited schools, who are Chamber members.

Governmental Affairs Team

Chair: Mickey Kahn, Attorney at Law

Vice Chair: Charles Cunningham, CenterPoint Energy

Monthly Meetings: 2nd Tues. at 8 am

  • Plan, develop, review, and communicate to the Chamber membership both national issues and the 2011 Texas legislative agenda with special emphasis on the following issues: – Flood water and drainage issues – City of Houston/Harris & Montgomery County issues including but not limited to ordinance making authority for county commisioners. – Greater restrictions or elimination of sexually-oriented businesses (SOB?s) – Interstate Highway I-69 – Transportation issues – Educational issues including, but not limited to, issues of funding for fast growth ISD mandates – Insurance issues including but not limited to healthcare for small businesses – Tax issues – Immigration issues
  • Host ?Peace Offi cer/Firefi ghter/EMS of the Year? Awards Luncheon in April.
  • Develop and maintain a major leadership role in the Alliance of North Houston Chambers (ANHOC).
  • Work closely with the Transportation Committee on legislative issues affecting both areas.
  • Actively participate and assume a leadership role in any proposed regional issue/concept.
  • Maintain an effective line of communication with all national, state and local elected offi cials to further the legislative agenda of the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce. Invite a staff member from each offi ce to attend our meetings.

Membership Services Team

Chair: Marietta Winters, Green Oak Diagnostics

Vice Chair: Ted Guest, Minuteman Press of Humble

Monthly Meetings: 3rd Wed. at 12 pm

Goal: To increase and retain members through education of the value of membership in a regional chamber such as the Lake Houston Area Chamber.

  • Sponsor and support a Quarterly Membership Blitz/Drive, three one-day blitzes, and one sixweek drive, dates to be determined.
  • Identify and develop a prospect list.
  • Regular visits to area businesses to encourage membership.
  • Host and attend monthly New Member Luncheons. Add increased participation by our Board Members and Committee Chairs.
  • Assist new members who are unable to attend New Member Luncheon with committee(s) selection.
  • Introduce new members and present Distinguished Investor plaques at the monthly luncheons.
  • Attend Networking Breakfasts and Business After Hours.
  • Partner with and support Ambassadors including attending ribbon cuttings for new members.

Seminar Team

Chair: Carmen Wisenbaker, Penworth Marketing

Vice Chair: Nancy Robertson, Kingwood Garden Center

Monthly Meetings: 1st Thurs. at 12 pm

Mission: To offer quality informative training and business guidance to the membership.

  • The task force is responsible for ensuring the seminar guidelines of the Lake Houston Area Chamber are followed.
  • Defi ne seminar topics that would be of interest to the Chamber membership.
  • Obtain seminar interest from other committees.
  • Help other committees coordinate seminars.
  • Ensure that all seminars are open to the Chamber membership for participation.
  • Encourage other Chamber committees to participate in the seminar process.

Transportation Team

Chair: Doug Spruill, Michael Baker, Jr. Inc.

Vice Chair: Stan Sarman, AECOM

Monthly Meetings: 2nd Tues. at 4 pm

  • Continue our ongoing efforts to improve mobility and drainage within the community and throughout our area by keeping offi cials at the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Harris County, Montgomery County, the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the City of Houston, and the City of Humble fully informed as to our transportation needs.
  • As needed, offer assistance to our elected offi cials in fi nding solutions to our transportation problems, supporting them in their efforts to secure the funding needed to complete street and road projects.
  • Remain active in support of area and regional efforts to fi nalize plans for and to begin construction of Interstate 69 from Canada to Mexico via U.S. Highway 59?s present route with the possibility of a bypass along the Grand Parkway?s planned path in the western portion of Harris County.
  • Give special effort to the following projects: – Widening of Will Clayton Parkway to four lanes from U.S. Highway 59 to Wilson Road. – Connecting Woodland Hills Dr. from Kingwood Dr. to Beltway 8. – Connecting West Lake Houston Pkwy. to Mills Branch Dr. – Extending Mills Branch Dr. to U.S. Hwy 59. – Improvements to intersection of 1960 and West Lake Houston Pkwy. – Completion of North Park to four lanes from West Lake Houston Pkwy. to Mills Branch Dr. – Widening of Greens Road to four lanes from Aldine-Westfi eld to U.S. Highway 59. – Improvements to FM 1960 from U.S. 59 to Lake Houston. – Design and construction of the Grand Parkway (SH 99), Segment G. – HGAC 2035 Regional Bikeway Plan for the Humble Area. – Improvement to Business 1960 from Lee Road to FM 1960 Bypass. – Widening of Loop 494.
